Phoenix Yellow Coupe project.

Today was my first full day back with the coupe, my aim is to get an MoT as soon as possible as the bodywork will need skills beyond what I can achieve.

But in earnest I bought some service items and cracked on today.
New Battery, Bosch
New Wipers, Bosch
Oil filter, Bosch
Air filter, Bosch
Pollen filter, Bosch
New oil and some cleaning stuff.

All going well but then I didn’t have the tool to remove the oil filter housing, so I’ve ordered one off Amazon. The old oil is out, just need to get the old filter out now and then top her up.


The only warning light was for a light, and the drivers side headlight wasn’t working. The inside was full of water so out that came, bumper off etc. what a pain. The light is now drying out inside, I’ll get the two seals replaced at the back of the headlights, hopefully that’ll sort if. I’m hoping the headlight just needs bulbs and isn’t internally damaged. Fingers crossed.

Anyway, lots more work to do.

The car looked really tidy in your first posts, theses close ups certainly show the work required to get the body up to a good standard, still a cracking looking motor, good luck with the project.

If you are looking to replace the 108’s. I’ll have a freshly refurbished set coming up for sale soon.
Powder coated silver barrels and faces. So should last longer than the standard finish.

There is damage to the left hand side from where the road got too narrow against oncoming traffic. The damage is what prompted it to be paid up, then the chap lost interest.
 
The front wing has a dent on the arch and scrape. The door has a scrape also and the underside of the sill cover is also a bit damaged.

At the moment it just needs wheels. I’m tempted to go aftermarket and restore the 108’s.
 
Good to see you made it back on the forum Mark after seeing your posts on Facebook - I look forward to following your progress.

Like many I'm not a big fan of the 108's mainly due to the high cost of refurbishment due to the split rim design but I also hate the aftermarket route.

Having that the coupe I just sold had the MV2's which I said I'd never have but then I found myself reluctant to change them because they were the original spec.

At the end of the day it's your choice so there is no wrong decision and at least it's back in your ownership after a long sabbatical :thumbsup:

And given how sad it looks now whatever you do is going to improve it!

I love the look of 108s, but they do seem to need regular expensive refurbs and I'm not that keen on MV2s especially as loads of E46s had them too. :(

Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing it being brought back to stunning, especially as it is so unique.
 
Quite a satisfying day today.
The yellow leather is cleaning up a treat, and the inner surfaces and carpets/mats are also coming up very well.
It’s looking more like a place you’d want to spend some time in!
I gave the O/S/F wheel well a gentle scrub, it’s brought back the yellow which was covered under the grey muck.
My oil filter housing tool turned up this afternoon, so oil in tomorrow and I can move it around again.
I also fixed my outdoor tap this afternoon, so I can now give that exterior a proper clean. Really looking forward to that!
A few people have mentioned I should start a YouTube channel to show my work on it………I might just do that. Watch this space.

The previous owner was a freight train driver which can be a mucky, oily, dirty career. I think oily overalls have been worn in there. Coupled with the fact that I’m pretty sure their depot is a limestone quarry site, hence the layers of grey sludge in the wheel arches.
It did smell oily in there but that is melting away now with each clean of the leather.
Inside there was the slightest layer of dusty mould just starting to form. All services have been anti-bacterial wiped and look much nicer now.

It’s all coming together nicely.
 
Understandable, but not forgivable!

Still, at least it’s in cleaner hands now :)
 
Now that’s going to be a transformation! Good job on giving it the love it deserves :thumbsup:
 
Impressive progress in such a short time though, I spent all winter doing bits and pieces that you did in a few days :lol:
