Z3 project...no going back now!

That is a lovely colour
It doesn't photograph well, at least not with my phone in artificial light.
It is a fairly dark red, most would call it burgundy.
I will hopefully be able to take some pics when it gets home before it goes back in the garage for the next 18 months!! :o

This is because all the gauges are mounted from behind, so you can't just pull anything out
Wrote several ripostes but then decided all I had to do was quote it and you'd guess how my mind was working.

Ah yes, I should have spotted that. Touche.

I must say that now it is painted, it is starting to look more like a 'proper' car. For so long it just looked like a 'butchered' Z3 with lumps of GRP hanging from it.
I was seriously worried that all my hard work and money was not going to result in a decent 'replica'. That thought was not one I can compute, so it was getting me down TBH. The body kit I bought was terrible quality and a complete nightmare from day one. Not the best for a complete novice like me, with no skills for this type of thing, to get my head around.

Now, thanks to some seriously skilled bodyshop people (and a tiny bit of my hard work), I am confident it can be one of the best of this type of car (and there are some seriously good ones out there). I don't really do mediocre.

I can't wait to get some of the pretty bits on to give me more incentive to get the bloody thing finished to the highest standard I can. But I am also scared to touch the paintwork for fear of scratching it!

There are still a few bits that I need to work out how to do; steering column covers are one big one and getting the suspension to sit right is another.

Slightly darker than I thought you'd go for, very similar colour to Pingu's rebody. But, I think that colour and your choice of interior colour will compliment each other perfectly. Looking forward to seeing it all back together

It was all going so well.......
Had a massive row with the bodyshop today, when they sent me a final invoice for £1,000 more than agreed. They had nothing written down as to the agreed cost (back in October) but were adamant it was £1,000 more than the figure I have (written down BTW).
To add insult to injury I also had to go over to them this morning as they "can't get the car started". So I load up some tools and a spare battery that I luckily have lying about.
Turned out they have managed to kill the (perfectly good) battery in the Z3 despite me asking them explicitly not to let it run flat! So that's another £200 I have to spend.

I am not paying the extra £1,000 and am considering deducting another £200 for a new battery. That obviously didn't go down well. Kind of spoilt the excitement of getting my car back TBH.

So they gave you a written quote in October 2024, did it have a date on it for how long the quote is valid?

I assume the quote allows for +10% given prices may have increased or for extra work required?

Material and labour costs have gone up since October.

Ask them to replace the battery like for like, at least they can claim the VAT back.

Wasn't clear if you said if you got a written quote from them, or that you made a note of the quote they gave you. If it is their quote, it would state how long it is valid for.

At a much lesser amount, I had a written quote from the bodyshop to paint the aero skirts for the M, but when I came to drop them off, they doubled the price (yep, double) as they said that the (their) quote was wrong.

There are not many honest, trustworthy businesses around any more it seems.

No, they gave a verbal quote over the phone in October 2024. Nothing on paper, or email, or text even. They then booked the car in for March 2025 (earliest they could do it apparently) and didn't mention money at all until today, when I got the final invoice.

I don't care if prices have gone up since October, they never mentioned that (and still haven't TBF) and the price they quoted was knowing they wouldn't be doing it until March/April/May/June anyway.

The whole "issue" is that they had one figure in their head and I had another (£1,000 less than theirs). I wrote the quoted figure down back in October but they didn't, so have now got it wrong. I don't think they are 'trying it on' for one minute. They just forgot the original figure and now presumed it was £1,000 more.
If you run a business, you should always get your prices correct and at least write them down!!

I have two items of 'proof' that my figure is correct; the note I made in October and a figure I posted on this forum in March. They are not proof of anything but show that my figure was what I had been given. The bodyshop have absolutely no proof of any figure cos he didn't write it down! He admitted he should have done and also admitted it was unprofessional of him.

Of course, because he now thinks I have 'done him out of £1,000' he is not very interested in the fact he has knackered my battery. I tested it when I got home; it is toast!
