So they gave you a written quote in October 2024, did it have a date on it for how long the quote is valid?
I assume the quote allows for +10% given prices may have increased or for extra work required?
Material and labour costs have gone up since October.
Ask them to replace the battery like for like, at least they can claim the VAT back.
No, they gave a verbal quote over the phone in October 2024. Nothing on paper, or email, or text even. They then booked the car in for March 2025 (earliest they could do it apparently) and didn't mention money at all until today, when I got the final invoice.
I don't care if prices have gone up since October, they never mentioned that (and still haven't TBF) and the price they quoted was knowing they wouldn't be doing it until March/April/May/June anyway.
The whole "issue" is that they had one figure in their head and I had another (£1,000 less than theirs). I wrote the quoted figure down back in October but they didn't, so have now got it wrong. I don't think they are 'trying it on' for one minute. They just forgot the original figure and now presumed it was £1,000 more.
If you run a business, you should always get your prices correct and at least write them down!!
I have two items of 'proof' that my figure is correct; the note I made in October and a figure I posted on this forum in March. They are not proof of anything but show that my figure was what I had been given. The bodyshop have absolutely no proof of any figure cos he didn't write it down! He admitted he should have done and also admitted it was unprofessional of him.
Of course, because he now thinks I have 'done him out of £1,000' he is not very interested in the fact he has knackered my battery. I tested it when I got home; it is toast!
